The Movie
San Francisco’s Big Five and the Psychedelic Poster Revolution tells the story of five visionary artists — Wes Wilson, Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley, Victor Moscoso, and Rick Griffin — whose groundbreaking concert posters became the defining visual language of the Summer of Love and forever changed the course of graphic design.
Set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury between 1966 and 1969, the film traces the birth of an artistic movement that emerged alongside the city’s extraordinary explosion of music, creativity, and social change. Through rare archival footage, exclusive interviews with the artists themselves, and insights from historians, curators, musicians, and cultural figures, the documentary reveals how a simple flyer advertising a dance concert evolved into an enduring work of art.
More than a story about posters, this is a story about imagination, collaboration, and the convergence of art, music, and counterculture that produced one of the most influential visual movements of the twentieth century. The artists known as the Big Five — along with Bonnie MacLean, Lee Conklin, David Singer, Randy Tuten, and Bob Schnepf — created a new visual language that continues to inspire designers, illustrators, and artists around the world.

“At its heart, the film is a celebration of creativity and the enduring power of art to capture the spirit of an era — and to shape the way future generations remember it.”
